Today is my birthday (don't ask, I'm older than dirt) and I found that my last image, "Summer Solstice," made the art charts. A wonderful birthday gift! Thank you so much for all the wonderful comments and fav's. You are the reason it is up there. You guys are great! Thank you Chris for your wonderful image and letting know Squirrel is fine! lol Another wonderful gift. Love it!
The legend of Prunella the Swan Keeper is widely told to this day in the Forest. It seems Prunella came to the Forest many, many years ago with her swans and took up residency on the big pond where it meets the lesser pond. The story goes that Prunella's swans are different than other swans. Yup, they are beautiful and they glide through the water effortlessly like all swans, but they have a special talent. They do...or so I've been told. The swans make pearls from stones! Oooh yes they do! No one knows how they do it, but they do it. And they aren't talking and neither is Prunella. The pearls are prized for their color, luster and glow. But only very special people get them and there is a long waiting list. A very long waiting list.
If on a warm summer's night you go into the woods at the North fork you will see the twinkle of night fairies flying on their nightly rounds. Don't mistake them for fireflies, they have a greenish glow about tthem. They take the pearls the swans have made and hide them until they are ready for use. Be quiet though, they are known to thump an unsuspecting visitor with acorns and I assure you, it smarts. And if you are even contemplating the idea of following the Night Fairies to the hiding place, think again. They are very adept at what they do and can dart in and out of places without being seen. And you will definitely be thumped ... hard.
You'll probably see Prunella down at the pond with the swans and Night Fairies. As I said, be very still and hide behind a bush or tree. They know you are there, but as long as you are quiet, they won't bother you. If you aren't, well...I don't want to talk about it, but you won't like it. And you thought you knew where beautiful pearls came from, you thought they came from silly oysters in the sea. HA! Everyone in the Forest knows they come from the swans...or so it is said. :o)
