Not just the rain forests, but all the little green spots too. Just two years ago, we lost our property to the state of NY. They took it from us (yes, they paid us for it, a pittance) in order to build a new expressway. It was a wonderful little piece of heaven. We had access to a big stream just at the end of our road, there was acres of woodland behind us for hiking, and protected forests withing a half days slow hike from us. Our little piece heaven is being paved over to make a four lane expressway so that truckers will have a straight north-south route from the Peace Bridge (connects US and Canada) which spans the Niagara River. Thankfully we found another place, perhaps better because it's on a dirt road far from any expansion of any kind. Destruction of wild life habit, of "the lungs of earth" saddens me beyond belief.
