Description

Daisy May was a stupid name but Cybertron Robotics newest general service android had the same basic structure as the Angel personal companion models. They never caught on in heavy construction which preferred the April general service android but the Daisy Mays were quite popular with light industry, restaurants, hotels, resorts, that sort of thing. The only real difference between the Angels and Daisy May was the titanium skeletal structure and the Kevlar skin. The synthetic muscles were the same except Angels had an inhibitor chip that kept them from using their muscles at full power. Candy

Nice story and render! A bit naive anyway, describing more the impact of human society to an android, then that of android technology to human society.

The impact that android technology had on humanity was devastating. At first they were too crude to be anything more than beasts of burden. In time as they became more sophisticated and more dexterous they began to replace human workers at higher and higher levels. Unemployment and welfare went through the roof. The crime rate also went up along with everything else that is associated with poverty and unemployment. The upside, we now had a mechanical work force to replace migrant farm workers. Corporate farms could produce vast quantities of food cheaply because they could afford tireless android workers. The downside, the individual family farm could no longer compete with the corporate farms without android help which they often could not afford. When Cybertron Robotics came out with the April general service android and the Candy personal companion android only put icing on a rather foul tasting cake. Humanity decayed into a state of unparalleled depravity. Today the line between wealth and poverty was not as blurred as it was at the beginning of the century. We now have the technology to feed the unemployed but in making android workers we also made a large portion of the worlds population permanently unemployed and whole sections of major cities became almost instant ghettos that pandered to the depravity of man. I could write an entire paper on the effects that androids have had on society, but it would be rather boring. Candys story was much more interesting in the telling and gave a glimpse of the other side and the impact that humanity was beginning to have on the ever growing android population. Here I could diverge off into the problems of artificial intelligence as it applied to androids but again it would be rather boring. I cannot begin to tell the larger story here and so I choose to focus on one small part of it instead. On the eve of the 22nd century everything would change.
