Description

"I need a skyscraper, as a testament to how wealthy I am", says a rich man. "Well, sir... we can always tear down a perfectly good, older building and re-build on it's spot" says a lackey. "Do I own any older buildings?" Quickly checking the lists of properties owned the lackey comes up with one. "Well sir, we do have one that's alomst one hundred years old..... if we act quickly we can have it torn down before some do-gooder has it declared a historic site" "Make it so.... and I want my building to be bigger than all those around it... and I want it to be sheathed in glass and steel, and I want it to have as litle style as possible... a fitting testament to my life!" and so, the old building was torn asunder so that a new, shiny structure could stand in it's place, filled with happy people, working away in a glass and steel hive. and that, boys and girls is why old buildings must be razed and removed...... What can I say... I'm sentimental for old buildings.... ;-) comments welcome, please enjoy!

A view from an ordinary town, during an ordinary day..... or not?!? This image can be also the portrait of our world and our civilization... Nice photo and suggestive work. Bravo!!!!

This image would make a nice BG map for any 3d application which has shadow catchers. (Like: Poser 7, 3ds Max, C4d, etc). A hundred years from now, some enterprizing individual will do the same to this newer building. Alas, history being damned.

Everything has an end.... ;-) Time to ponder over. Here in Saigon, buldings in the Le Thanh Thon got mangled like this, just after 2 years to give room to 40+ floor buildings!

I prefer the older style buildings as well, more character, bigger rooms and in case of fire you can jump out the windows and survive ! Interesting capture & ~Cheers~ :o)

You should see Detroit. They've torn down or trashed everything old.

Yes it is a fact of life but I have lived long enough to see the new buildings also razed to the ground and replaced with new ones that are starting to take on the character of the very old so there is always hope. My God how sad this photo is.
