I dont think of myself as an artist - more a creatively minded laymen. Im blessed with perpetual inspiration, but cursed by a lack of talent.
I have always loved to sketch, and on the odd occasion even paint. Unfortunately for me, a real world canvas doesnt have an undo button. This is why, back in 1996, I first started toying with a Shareware version of Paint Shop Pro (found on the cover of a magazine). I knew almost instantly that digital art was for me.
Fast forward to 2006, when I discovered a highly under-rated (yet unfortunately limited) program called FaceGen. Within hours of tinkering with the software I was creating realistic characters well beyond anything I could have managed via traditional mediums. But what to do about bodies for my newly created digital brethren?
I took it upon myself to scour the internet in search of a 3D software package that was flexible enough to fulfil my specific needs, while still being NOOB friendly. Untimely I didnt want to spend months, or even years deciphering the ins and outs of 3D Studio Max for instance.
It wasnt long before I caught digital whisperings of a program called Poser, which lead me eFrontiers very own site.
In search of more examples of Poser art I found myself inevitably at Renderosity...and I havent looked back since.
The community here is certainly a mixed bunch (as are all communities, online especially), but in the great majority they have proven to be incredibly helpful, and wonderfully supportive.
If you plan on commenting on my images (and I certainely hope you do) while praise is always appreciated, critical analysis and constructive criticism is encouraged.
Happy rendering!

As usual, you're making first class images my friend :)

Overall I like it alot! The only distraction for me is the shorts, they just seem...odd. Still overall very nice! Good work. Hugs ~Samantha

Well, I do a lot like this image as it is. Wouldnt change a thing! Lights, pose, expressions, textures, everythings works fine and as a whole. I sincerely congratulate you for this.

Thanks modyfree. Connie, thank you for your continued support. Always happy to see you drop by. samhal - It's always hard when you're too close to an image. I look at the loin cloth (they're not technicall shorts) and I don't see a problem. Conversley I could show a thousand people and they'd probably all tell me they looked odd :).

I like the overall image - but have to agree about the - loincloth/shorts. They look as if maybe they don't fit properly and are a little thickish. Something like that should be made of a thinner material I think and that highlight along the bottom edge gives an impression of alot of material there. Could be the lighting or size of the image as well but it seems to lack bump or wrinkle giving the impression of plasticy. Love the wings - the clouds the lighting and I really! like that sword. Very nice how you got the light reflection on the fuller. Don't see that often.

Nice!!!!!

Well, I do like the shorts/loin cloth, I think its roughness make an excellent contrast with the delicate wings. Perfect for me. As strictly a personal preference, I wouldn't put the halo. I personally think it takes the dignity out of the character, but that's my personal taste, nothing more. Clouds are perfect. Overall pose is almost perfect, with the exception that the torso and the wings are not aligned (the upper torso has an angle, the wings don't, and they should, as they come out of it). Colors/tone look wonderful.

Bugger! The more I look at that loin cloth, the worse it becomes. The texture doesn't have a bump map by default, but I'll just plug the image map into the bump channel. Maybe paint a quick trans-map for a frayed edge to lose that 'solid' look.

Very dramatic scene. The loin cloth is right for me. I agree though with the disalignement of the wings. But hu... great work!

Thanks rutra and vince. I suppose the loin cloth is a taste thing. My wife agrees with you about the halo rutra. It just looked a little empty without it. The wing 'bones' are in the correct position, and this is evident when viewed from behind. It's the wing pose that gives the impression of misalignment. Not that it matters. If it looks wrong, it doesn't matter if it's technically not :). Thanks guys. Always appreciate your feedback.

nice blend of background and 3d. the wings work well here (usually, i think they look too paper thin to do anything useful). the green and red work for me; my boyfriend says he looks like he's going to throw up. chacun a son gout, i guess. i, too, think the loin cloth has some problems. you have fairly realistic clouds, fairly realistic body, and then a loin cloth that looks very stiff and completely unnatural. the only reason for that dip in the front would be if they were shorts and he, um, hung real low. conversely, there's nothing that indicates it being attached to him- no stress lines to indicate tying, no buckle, nothing. which would work if they were shorts zipped up in the back like hot pants, but again, not so much for a hanging loose cloth. the hip hugger position on his body doesn't help either. i don't have a problem with the halo. it looks very old/classic art to me. of course, then the wings should be colored, too. i think the pose is very good. the light seems somewhat ambiguous (the background makes it unclear whether the light is coming from behind him or not), and i think it works very well. the murkiness seems ambiguous as well, as if it comes from something more than dark clouds. nice job.

I like the idea. The whole archangel or angel of death (Im guessing from the sword) pleading with God (like Kevin Smiths Loki perhaps?) is great. The basic composition works well too. Wings spread horizontally across the top third. The light coming from above is a necessity (heavens glory and all that) Im just not sure about the darkening of the figure towards the bottom of the image. It looks like youve just made a gradient or feathered selection and dialled down the brightness. This gives the bottom half of the figure a strange colour cast (especially the hands). It wouldve been better to light the figure appropriately before rendering.

I like this angel - quite an attitude. The horizontal alignment of the wings looks a bit static. Could look more interesting (compositionally as well) if it was on a diagonal (perpendicular to the diagonal of light). As for the loin cloth debate - arent you a self declared cloth room enthusiast, have you tried to run a simulation on a the loin cloth? it may drape more naturally. Very nice overall
