This image is purely fantasy... I imagined a ritual of purification that might have existed at a certain time in a certain and undefined area of the world. The warrior woman, all dressed in black, symbol of simplicity and courage, is taking a white ribbon, symbol of purity... She is praying, closed eyes and the head slightly bent. She will soon place the ribbon in the burner that represents life and also the living memory of all the warriors, dead or still alive. Burning the ribbon will show that they all make one... On her left is a young maiden. In her hands is the holy cup containing the blessed water. After having burnt the ribbon, she will be invited to drink a sip of that water and she will be totally purified. This is a scene I really enjoyed making: it took nearly ten days from the idea to the rendered image. I wanted to evoke Japan though the scene might have happened anywhere. The environment is quiet and all is silence. I also wanted the black opposed to the white though nobody is a symbol of evil. I decided to let the render as it appeared once finished because the scene is intended to take place on a day without sun and in autumn (the cherry trees in the background). Some wind is blowing and is visible when looking at the hair and outfits. The fog and haze are also a very important part of the atmosphere. No joy nor sadness, only the silence... I used HDRI for the lighting that's what explains the special lighting I obtained: neutral would I say. I wanted the reflections on the chalice that's why I chose a very reflective silver material in VUE. Rendered in VUE6PS, no postwork.
