Description

Captured in the very early morning a couple of years ago, about two miles from my residence. Babuci, with her passion for all kinds of animal, vegetable and mineral textures, should really appreciate this one. When I first encountered this approximately two-foot long rock lying on the front yard of a house, my first thought was that someone had brought it back from some quarry out in the hinterlands, then had a lot of fun playing artist with their paint brush. But it then dawned on me, that despite the seemingly artificial layering, this could be the result of millions of years of natural stratification! I'm no geologist, Jim, just an amateur photog, but that could/must be the case. There was also another big rock lying nearby, which I'll post soon, that had similar colors, but was blotchy and lacked the lovely precise strata effect as this one. Thanks for the peek!

What an interesting rock! That brilliant orange color seems quite unusual. I bet there are some geology buffs and/or rockhounds around here who would know what it is. I'll look forward to seeing the other one!

WoW...na that is what I call a very fascinating rock. Love the orange layers in there, I only guessing what elements created these bright strong colors. Excelent find and a very good shot Harry. I have a few rock sample from all over Au, we have a garden specialy for "holiday rocks". I like to see the other one too if is possible in a future, this stuff is cool, thank You!

That's an incredible rock! At first I thought it'd been painted or something. Excellent capture of a beautiful object.

I have always been fascinated by the many layers upon which we live. This is a marvelous shot. The good lighting and pov provide a clear and detailed look at this story-rock.
