Description

Taken at Burger Zoo at Arnhem Ger Ilona and I had travelled for a few hours to get there and were rather disappointed, however the Hot house and desert zones were wonderful, and there was this nesting Crowned Pigeon which almost made up for it!!

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS PIC.--- MIGHT BE THE LAST THAT WE ALL GET TO SEE OF PIGEONS--- ACCORDING TO SCIENCE SURVEYS RECENTLY,, WE HAVE LOST A TOTAL OF BETWEEN--- 70% TO 80% OF THE WILD PIGEON POPULATIONS SPECIES AS WELL AS NEARLY 30% OF ALL WILD BIRD SPECIES--- GLOBAL WARMING I GUESS... AGAIN I THANK YOU.....

Beautiful bird - it compensates for not having the quality we're used to get from you. Seems you were at the end of the rope, what light is concerned. 1/60 handheld is tough...

A very beautiful bird. I like the top knot and the feather coloring.

Well, you knew I'd fall all over this one! It's a treasure! The softer focus and detail is perfect for this regal and exciting line of pigeon. How marvelous. I know I was very disappointed with our zoo...all the birds are in cages made of heavy or close-knit wire so pictures are impossible to take. The bars/wire disrupt the focus of the camera and it ruins a decent view of the bird. I had really hoped to get photos of the frog-mouth owl this past weekend at our zoo but even though it was only a few feet away, the bars of the cage and the extremely shaded area prevented any sort of photograph from being taken. All the birds were like that including the Vulture and Toucans and such.

Wow! Beautiful creature. We are in a farming community and have been invaded by Eurasian Doves, I hope I spelled that correctly. Enough so that the DOW has removed any limits on hunting them and are concerned they are hurting the native dove and pigeon population around here. The doves are bigger than the pigeons. Weird.

I don't know why, but this pigeon seems to bear a resemblance to a profile shot I saw of our Queen Victoria just recently!! I think it must be the look in the eye, the rather portly breast and that very regal looking crown!! Now I know I must be going round the bend!! All that aside, this is a great shot Danny! Well done! (From a rather insane Eileen !!!)
