Description

pure Terragen with no post work . I enjoy what I do and some others seem to also.there are those that are jealous of artists having fellow artist friends and want to belittle other's work even though they are beginners, not in a constructive way but out of pure meanness .then there are those people that want to offer advice and do it in a manner that is not derogative and I salute those people.I had another version posted but decided to replace it with the original Terragen. my postwork was not very good. I was trying to make the large terrain object look like ice and did a poor job of blending thanks for your visit and I hope it is enjoyable.thanks for your comments also

No comment on the 3 pages comments. It just confirms that backslapping is definitively back.

A very icey look to this work, kinda like looking out my window at the moment. The frost is still thick on the ground here and it is 2pm. The sun is shining so that is something.

after looking into your Photo folder, u have allot of nice pictures:) stunning actuly! Can i speak from the heart? If it hadent been for the rendername.. i dont think i could have made out what it was.. Im sorry for the direct comment. but it said u wanted both, critical, and non-critical comments. What everybody else is seeing here, i aint. Lighting, textures and water is way off. Im guessing u copyd the mountain into the scene with PS. the smudgetool did not help the job. Terragen can be a hard tool to use, i know.. iv been there:P U need to rework lighting, textures, and water. im hoping u dont feeling down after reading this. im hoping to help u along the way with this:) play around with the "texture editor" in Terragen allso try to size the waves in the water editor. move the sun around to get the best lighting for ur scene. looking forward to ur next Terragen post:)

This is a provocation, if not an offence, for those who spend a lot of their time to do their best and to upload good works. I wonder if the people who has commented enthusiasticaly such a scadent work are serious :-(

This image needs a lot of work. Apart from the fact that the sky is default and could use some more tweaking (and that goes for the water too) the POV is chosen badly because you see the end of the terrain. You used only the one default gray surface layer. I do understand your enthusiasm about your first results, I too was very happy with my first TG renders and the comments i got from my family and friends. But keep this in mind: Posting this when you have a lot of folks that have you on their fav list (and the fact most of them know zilch about what Terragen can produce in capable hands)will turn up a lot of "Excellent!!" type of comments and thus offend those people that work long and hard to get a really decent render. I'd suggest you read some more tutorials and have a critical look on your own work and the work of other Terrageneers before you post another TG render in the future.

The truely gifted at any craft grow, learn, and become "gifted" by trying things and sometimes being outside thier on comfort zone. It is just super that you are attempting to improve your art ( fine though it is! ) by learning new tools, methods, and by sharing work in process and what you find works or does not, and by asking help from those who honestly want to offer constructive tips. This is the mark of a true artist and fine person in my humble opinon. Your wintery effects are certainly better than I can yet achieve with terregen!!! This evokes the feeling in me of snow with glacers forming. Now wear did I put my winter coat?!

I am hollering dear Richard, that I like this image very much. I know what my eyes like and they love this work. Hat's off to you for trying different works, I admire that in you. I would not know where to start. It is a beautiful image Richard, this is my true belief. It is a wonderful beginning, please do not comments put you off. Keep going, learning more and more. Your talents are amazing. Hugs. Diane.

I fully agree with AndyWelder (and some others) about the need of improvement on this picture. I can not blame you because you're certainly a beginner with Terragen, and I've been too. What a don't understand is this incredible number of "Excellent" (or similar) ratings of all these people who certainly know you for other works. In this case, it's not appropriate. Sorry to say that (and it's not jealousy), but you have to know that this kind of attitude is common on RDR, and unfortunately these numbers of compliments do not reflect the real quality of your render. As Andy says, you should study some tutorials to learn how to make nice surfaces, terrains, atmo, etc. Take a look on the "most viewed"/"most rated"/"best ratings" Terragen works, and you will see what the best artists can do with TG. (Even if, on these last galleries, you will see some anomalies too - I mean some renders that should not be there). I repeat : no jealousy on this, only disappointment considering the way of rating & commenting of RDR.
