Description

I'm on a roll. Keep in mind that the colors have been dicked with heavily, so you can see the clouds better and also to emphasize the contrast between the grayish sky and the green landscape. You know how the camera tends to dull things down from the way it looks to you. Here's how I did it (this may be a really common method since I have no idea how other people get this effect): 1. Select around the clouds (I just used the softest-edged selector brush because I'm lazy but if you want to be really precise you could do it by hand). Copy and paste to create a new layer right on top of where you selected it. 2. Do the same thing with the trees. 3. Change the cloud layer's Blending Mode to "Color Burn" (or "Linear Burn", I find those two look best). 4. Remove all/most of the color from the cloud layer. Adjust its opacity until you get the most definition. 5. Now the trees: change the tree layer's Blending Mode to "Soft Light" (if that's not bright enough for you, you could try "Color Dodge"). 6. Crank up the Brightness on the tree layer. You may want to adjust the Contrast, too. 7. Make whatever minor adjustments you need to to finish cleaning up the image, if you think it needs it. 8. Walk away from the computer and eat chips. Anyway, this image is dedicated to short_ribs, who has decided not to post anymore. I was really sad when he posted his last shot, since he's been one of my all-time faves for a loooooong time. Seems like everybody's leaving. Godspeed you, short_ribs.

I love cloud images as they are all so different. Thanks for telling us how to do the changes as I had no idea how to do that. Certainly makes them stand out.
