Description

"...Ring transits are always a bitch. You have to rely on your sensors with the deflector fully extended to protect the rest of the ship from the debris. You go micro-grav routine because the habitat units must be folded in behind the deflector (they are too long--even with that big ablative dish fully extended. It looks really pretty (the ring) from the surface, but when you are trying to maneuver 100,000 metric tonnes and 100 personnel between a narrow window between the Rings "C" and "D" you never relax until you clear the last marker buoy. Even though the Ring Guards maintain an active patrol, tagging and moving rogue ring debris out of the shipping lane, those rings are BIG--almost 240,000 clicks from the "A" ring to the "K" ring--and they can miss even the decent size chunks..." --Astrogator Simmonds, personal log, found in the wreckage of the "Kinsey" after she was hit by a rogue ring rock in the "H" ring amidships, slicing the ship in two and sending her into the ring structure itself. I may expand more; not sure at this point. I've got an Implementation Guide that I'm writing for a new product WHILE the product is in transit (Hong Kong) to the site--and I need to have the Implementation Guide there first (end of week). How's that for good sound product planning?! Good case study for the next release of "The Mythical Man Month"... (sigh) Thanks for the kind comments all!

Beautiful! And you've summed up why it'd be such a bad idea to try to navigate through that! Very nice work on this one.

Having followed your gallery for some time I can say that, INHO, this is one of your better conceptual tales. Art is top notch as usual. Also like your "ancients" concept - hope to see you do more on that concept ... in between old cars, computers, a cool doggy and hopefully, fishing at Cle Ellum & some of the other ponds up that way. LOL.
