I am a developing artist working on improving my abilities to create beautiful digital landscape compositions. Without the help and suggestions of the many fellow artists in this community, it would be a long time before I reach the next level.
BIO
I am a retired procurement professional who has long had an interest in photography and painting; and, lately in computers and photorealistic natural landscapes. I hope to become more proficient and perfect my abilities to produce acceptable work. My experience in art started at a very early age when I would spend many hours sketching and painting. I had instruction at The Art Institute in Chicago, Illinois. I did some freelance work for Flying Models, Model Airplane News and Top Flite Models creating plans and illustrative construction sequences for magazines and kit models. I had spent more than 20 years designing, building and flying radio controlled model airplanes...a very rewarding hobby for me. During the 1970s, I spent 11 years in the hobby of "bonsai"; the Japanese art of miniature trees. In my first 7 tree entry in a contest, all 7 trees were awarded ribbons in various categories. Japanese landscaping became a passion for me where I completed a 3 year project creating a Japanese landscape around my home in Oak Forest, Illinois. I also did this work for several other people in our community. In 1987 I moved to Phoenix, Arizona where I currently make my home. The love of the American southwest and all its beauty is where I wanted to spend the rest of my life. Now that we have computers, digital cameras; and, Terragen; I'll have enough to do for a long, long time.

The terrain looks great!

If you wouldn't have told it were rocks I would have thought they were tiny shrubs, the ones that come rolling through the screen in a western movie!:-) Great terrain indeed!
Petra-S
super sky and light!
Phylloxera
Agree with Philippe !!
WeeLaddie
Excellent terrain, Bob. Is there a way of lightening the shadows cast by the fake stones to minimize the speckled effect on your terrain? Didn't know HD specs affected render times, thought that was all processor, ram, and graphics card related. Food for thought.

Sounds like you traded the VW beetle for a Ferrari, Bob - it makes a world of difference! I like the subtle displacement on the rocks. Yeah, you gotta be careful with fake stones... they multiply like rabbits!
artgum
Love the high windswept clouds- excellent surface work. Congrats on that new rendering machine Bob!
Ionel
The surface is beautiful as the fake stones are looking more like vegetation! Excellent sky and light too! Superb work and congratulations for your new PC, Bob! :)
ariz
Your sky is excellent, the haze is perfect. The "rocks" will come around to your point of view. :O)
Maori
This is a very realistic scene Bob. Beautiful desert scene!!! Congratulations on your new PC!!!!!!!

Dotthy
I agree with Andy, my first thought was shrubs. Excellent work Bob!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
carlx
Excellent desert composition, with a bit mystic mood!!! Very well done!!!
Jordano
This is simply outstanding work, Bob! From details to colours.
broken-wings
Excellent terrain and lighting!
kanzler
Great terrain and surface work. Agree with superza about the fake stone textures.
Markal
Agree about the black specks but man...that render time....I render overnight and wake up to 1/4 of a picture....guess its time to upgrade...thanks Bob!
Fahrenheit451
Excellent! Very realistic! More memory and faster processors make a world of difference! :)
fractalinda
Well, I think your work here is so impressive, Bob. Realistic, beautiful and just outstanding- specks and all! When I'm traveling up I-5, this is how it looks for a great distance. Inspiring!

Great Terregen work. The AMD quad is probably better and definitely cheaper than Intel. My Turion 64 renders far faster than my Intel Duo. (And was cheaper to make)
Coppens
Looking very good, Bob! Those 'stones' may well be something else: dried bits of vegetation...
Tiwiwine
Well done. You're probably right about the fake stones but it's not so bad.
prutzworks
great vista, agree with Coppens
criss
I like the terrain!
zoren
a cool stone formation, but I agree with you... good luck with your new computer.
shantay
Beautiful and natural! Love this terrain.
