Description

3rd post from my trip last weekend from St. Paul Minnesota to Memphis Tennessee. We spent the night in Chicago, ate at Buddy Guy's Legends Blues Club (heaven on earth), and then hit the downtown streets at dusk taking photographs. This is the tallest Building in the world that's known only by its street address. While it's a bit overshadowed by its more famous and much taller neighbor, the Sears Tower, 311 South Wacker takes the same skyscraper formula and updates it. Instead of the Sears Tower's forceful black glass squares (post to come), 311 South Wacker uses an octagonal main shaft clad in pink granite imported from Texas. The result is a smaller, but more stylish presentation. To the left of the building is a monument of some kind, but since I had to stand in the middle of the street to take this and almost got hit, I didn't have the time to notice what it was for. Perhaps someone from Chicago can enlighten me. The Sears Tower is indeed impressive, but 311 South Wacker is a work of art. Thanks for stopping by. Happy July 11th! marshall

Love this kind of shot. Soooo impressive, I'd end up with a sore neck. I was reading about the building work in Dubai just now, the Burj tower ....wait for it 808 meters high, jeez thats half a mile into the sky! http://gahsoon.blogspot.com/2006/10/worlds-tallest-building-burj-dubai.html Unbelievable Looking forward to the Sears Tower shots.
