Description
This is a pic of a Crab Spider (I believe). They hunt by stalking their prey underneath leaves and flower petals. As far as I know they are active hunters they do not weave a web of any sort that I have found. They are great hunters and will stand motion less waiting for prey to come close enough. I found this one underneath a milkweed leaf yesterday while hunting for Monarch Caterpillars and eggs. Side note; our daughter raises Monarch caterpillars up to the chrysalis stage during the summer. (it’s her summer job she is 10) She then sells the Monarch chrysalis to friends and neighbors during the summer. It is a perfect trifecta: 1 we are helping the Monarch population increase, 2 we are educating people about these incredible butterflies and their amazing migration pattern and 3 I’m teaching our daughter the value of capitalism.) In 14 days the chrysalis transforms into a truly beautiful butterfly, which is just amazing to watch if you have never this before.
So sorry for the long side note. Cool spider though. I’m sure I will see more of them around as the summer goes on. One of my goals this summer is to take some pics of a black jumping spider with vibrant green eyes that I have seen from time to time but with out my camera at hand.
Hope you enjoy the crab spider pic.
PS I did find one Monarch Caterpillar & two eggs.
