Description
Next to naked women, Mount Saint Helens must be the most rendered scene on Renderosity. So, here is my latest addition to St. Helens glut.
This is a slightly altered version of the picture posted on 2/28/2002. The snow line, water, & sky have all been "improved" according to my tastes and some excellent suggestions. Except for the steam plume, this is all Terragen. This rendering is a conscious attempt to emulate a USGS photo by Lyn Topinka in 1982. Curiously, thanks to Terragen it is possible to determine that the photo was taken from the northern shore of the western lobe of Spirit Lake.

Excellent! So real! Its hard to believe this happened 20 years ago - it seems like yesterday.

excellent....you might lower the max slope for the snow and lower the max altitude....it'll make the snowline less abrupt....otherwise, great pic!

I live by mountains. Seem to forget that one day it might just blow up with the force of 100 Hiroshimas but with no thermal-nuclear aftermath. People within the first 10 miles get ripped apart by the concussive shockwaves pulverizing bones and turning the body to liquid. The others die of smoke inhalation, the earthquakes, debris...etc. Back on track, nice image.
