Description

I found this interesting plant at UBC, (thriving on the hottest day for 40 years!) Can anyone identify it for me? It is a good 5' tall, and seems to sprout from a nest of large serrated leaves at the base. Thanks for any suggestions....;) Monday, July 16th I found out what this is this morning at my local nursery! It's ACANTHUS, (Bear's Britches)

We called those an Elephant Ear plant. We had one growing in our garden when I was a kid. I don't know the Latin word for them, though.

Its not quite the same as what we used to call elephant ear but I guess names for plants are regional. I have seen something similar in parks around here. They seem to do very well. Nice shot.
