Hi everybody. I would like you all to meet Deputy Di’ze Uy a character from my “Damnation’s Edge” saga: Hailing from the planet Bidal, a non-IACT member on the charts, Di’ze Uy (pronounced DÎ sé you Ye) is a rebel that once had a cause. The Bidalian culture is based on a strict ritualistic society. They perform a ritual for EVERYTHING, even breaking wind. Performing the correct ritual, at the right time without flaw will gain you admiration and privilege. Failing at even a single one, especially an important one can ruin your entire adult life. Son to an accomplished ambassador, Di’ze accompanied his father to a treaty mission at IACT headquarters. It was clear to his father that Di’ze did not like the structure of the Bidalian lifestyle and that he often chose to have fun instead of studying his rituals but allowed it hoping he would grow out of it. Three Earth months later, upon returning from successful negotiations with IACT, Di’ze performed a returning ritual. He performed it flawlessly, or so he thought but then found out that a new ritual replaced the one he performed while he was away and was chastised for not knowing the new ritual. Humiliated, his father disowned him on the spot and forbade him to go home. The rest of his friends and family also shunned him, treating him as though he was never born. Frustrated and angry, he began researching the history of every ritual, trying to find meaning to his existence. After memorizing every ritual, past and present, he concluded that the Bidalian way of life “Is a curse that needs to be exorcised” and then proceeded to destroy the Planetary Archive of Ritual Knowledge out of spite. He was captured, convicted and because of the rising civil discord amongst the population by his presence, sentenced to exile from the planet of Bidal. With nowhere to go, he found work with a traveling galactic carnival show where he learned the ways of an entertaining performer and the path to a kinder heart. Later on, while performing a show on Earth an accident happened that killed the owners of the show and would have killed him as well if not for the rescue efforts of a young Billy Ways. Feeling he owes his life to him and with the carnival now disbanded, he left Earth with Billy to help him in his new Spacer life as an off world archeologist. Light-hearted, understanding and hard working, Deputy Di’ze Uy helps to balance out the often-serious Damnation’s Sheriff (and irritate just about everyone else on the staff) with a little wise-cracking humor on the side.
