Description


A female pileated woodpecker in my backyard. These are the biggest woodpeckers in Ontario, up to 48cm long.

Include me among those who have as yet to get a photo of one of these very noisy birds, lol. I have several mating pairs on my property in North east Texas and I hear and see them on a regular basis. The males are especially loud and persistent when courting the females. This is a pretty good shot of one. Thanks for sharing. Lee

We have one that lives off and on in a hole filled tree just across the road. I have not been able to catch him or her setting still long enough to photograph. Excellent photo!
