Description

As with most of my "faces" this started as an abstract. I never know when a face will emerge, or what tone or emotion it will take on. In the beginning abstract, the mouth you see here started the journey into this portrait. Thank you for your support, comments and the addition of my work to your favorites over the past weeks. Each is appreciated and felt. A wonderful Sunday and new week to each of you. It is a perfect day here, and the great outdoors is calling my name. :)

...well - Jill, this strikes me as would a 'detail' from a centuries old painting, maybe even religious or spiritual in theme - makes one hunger for context - to slowly pull back and widen out ---but, then - we can use our imaginations to do that....meanwhile we must remain content with our little window into this chap's world, and also wonder what he sees - with his introspective gaze.

Oooooohh. Very cool. I agree with Doug - it looks like if we pulled back, there would be a larger image. Perhaps a face in a crowd scene. Something from Bosch, perhaps. The canvas texture is wonderful, and it does have a look like it's been varnished. Awesome work!!!

Well, I wouldn't exactly say Bosch, but that's just me :o) ....to me it looks a little more Renaissance-y (how ya like that word) lol ....but whatever style ya wanna call it, I call it fabuloso, la mia signora bella Jill S ~ Hugs ~

Great darkish(?) image! The character looks like he is in some kind of pain, physical and/or spiritual.Definitely looks like an old European painting.

I do really love how the emotion emerges from your brush strokes, always coming from your heart and speaking to mine so intensely and intimaely. There is great sadness in this, a tear and a sob that are trying to escape. Fine work ... have a grand Sunday outdoors. I'm in sunny Calif and it's beautiful here, too.: Hugs - CC

Splendid piece. The expression is one of exhaustion and sadness to me. I have seen it in war zone areas or places of great poverty. The eyes are magnificent. Superbly done. Bunny

Agree with Bunny here, Jill...those eyes are positively haunting...pools of black...the depth surreal and so striking. A complete powerhouse of impact, this one. Splendid work! :)

The portrait is made obviously about mood, emotions are shown and color does not cause doubt, and should be, as the author has conceived!!!!

OH dear! What an expression. To me it seems to be full of sorrow and fear. The texture is just fantastic. Such a lovely artwork.

Wonderful aged effect on the canvas. The face gives me two impressions. The first of a detached indifference in the eyes, and the second that of distain in the mouth. Very interesting work, Jill.

I agree with Mina, very "Renaissance-y". To me, he has a very judgemental look, very cold with that sneer on his lips. Awesome work, and I love that you talk about how it developed!
