Description

The Cuban Red Macaw has been extinct for over 140 years. It was reasonably common around 1800. During the early 19th century, the human population in its home range increased dramatically, leading to widespread deforestation. The bird was also hunted for food, and nests were plundered or disturbed to acquire young birds to keep as pets. Until 1849, the species seems to have been able to hold its own at least in remote areas, but subsequently, the population crashed never to recover. At least 19 specimens are known to exist, the last one being shot in 1864 at La Vega in the vicinity of the Ciénaga de Zapata swamp, which seems to have been the last stronghold of the species. Brought back to life for Songbird ReMix's "More Threatened, Endangered, Extinct" (now entering it's beta phase for an early August Release). Rendered in Poser7 with no post.

I like this pose and subject, Ken. I see that you use Songbird Remix. It has been on my DAZ wishlist. Perhaps, next month. I have many POSER and DAZ models, but have only had time to skim over both programs. I thank you for your kind comment on my recent DAZ|Studio first try on Lake Windermere. Regards, John

Carioca: Yes, this is the first macaw I've done-- I didn't think it was possible with the ReMix model-- but I got a fairly good result, so there may be more on the way :)
