Description

Another piece featuring Aith... and the segment of the story it comes from: Aith finally found herself drifting, nearing the elusive slumber she desired. Her eyes began to close when a glimmer of candle-light arrested her attention. It was coming closer. The golden light began to reveal the fine elven features of the bearer of the candle. She started to doubt that the rich golden tone was even the light of the candle. Suddenly she recognized him. "Ashael!" she exclaimed as she swiftly rose to a sitting position. He only smiled and slipped around the corner of a long corridor. Throwing the afghan over her aside, she leaped from the couch and turned around the corridor after him. She nearly lost sight of him as he turned down another hall. Quickening her pace, she swerved around the corner where he had disappeared only to find him turning once more another way, and then another and another. Aith grinned mischievously and began to sprint in serious pursuit. And so the chase continued but the gap never seemed to shorten or slack. At last she saw him open a door at the end of the hall and go in. Breathless, she crept over to the door and peaked into the room. Aith was astonished. Her eyes glanced rapidly over the moonlight room, every detail so familiar to her. Could it really be that she had lost her bearings to this extent? Yet here she was in her own bedroom. Slowly she approached the side of her bed, where Ashael lie. A cool breeze from the open window rustled his golden curls. He appeared to be fast asleep! As she looked upon his tranquil face she felt more tired than she had in seven long years. Yawning, she crept into the bed next to him, pulled over the covers and fell asleep. Only a second later it seemed, she started awake. The blinding morning light shone through the thick living-room curtains straight in her eyes. Sitting up, she stared blankly around her living-room. "Dreams! Bah!" she muttered. Now does anyone want to see a portrait of Ashael?
