I was born in Zimbabwe on 03/06/88. My family, consisting of parents, older brother and sister, migrated to South Africa when I was six months old. We moved back to Zimbabwe six years later, to help my grandparents on their farm - a career change for my father.
After a measly eighteen months we upped sticks and went farming on our own. This led us to Kwekwe, in the heart of Zimbabwe, to farm tobacco! Borrowdale farm which is part of the "Midlands Black Rhino Conservancy" is where we settled . This was the most incredible experience, living with such an abundance of wild life ........... of which we became a part of during the school holidays! Due to the "land redistribution policy" we had no option but to move on.
10th November, 2001 saw us arrive in New Zealand with our former lives packed into a suitcase each, ready to start our new lives. Our first three years were spent on the South Island and I nearly froze!!!!!!! A great employment opportunity for my father had us move up to the North Island. I now live on a farm just outside Matamata aka "Hobbiton" (defrosting).
Yep that should sum it up ha!

Oh man, do you know how to come up with a title or what? ;'] Seriously, a nice image, but yesterday's grabbed me a lot more. I am all for poetic simplicity, but this one seems to be lacking a certain something. Perhaps it is the focus, as you say. That said, it is still a pleasant enough image to look at.

Hey, I'm glad you noticed the lack of focus. Honestly I don't know how you were shooting or if this output is what you had in mind but I think it's pretty dismal apart from the background being in DOF and your composition. I really feel that if it's hand shake that's caused the lack of focus you should've tried for a sturdier position but if you couldn't I would honestly hide this shot in the depths of my collection. I can't say much to improve the composition the rule of thirds is good and background in blur is good too, as mentioned. Not your finest Kai, sorry mate. You know me brutality honest and I love getting it from you too.

I like the soft focus. I mean blur.

I think I would have gone for the sharper focus on the flower and done any necessary blurring of the wall in postwork, but hey - depends on what you're working on! I like this image. The composition is quite pleasing, and I like the light. Red is a tough capture, and you did a great job with this!

Well Kai, I can't comment like the professionals have above, I can only go on what I like and don't like and this shot.... I like!! It is definitely worth a full size view as the focus isn't too bad when viewed this way and I think the slight "off-focus" adds a touch of artistic feel to the whole shot. Wonderful composition, the colour of the poppy is perfect as is the lighting. Don't be dismayed - have you seen some of my shots????? LOL!! Hugs. xx

Very Nice Shot!!!

The color combo is working for me. Although the rule is generally that simple is best, this is almost too simple and I feel it needs something more. What you have here is wonderful but I think it could be made more interesting... two flowers? a shadow? I don't know but I bet you can come up with something good.

Kai, love the shot. i thought maybe flipping it to have the flower come from the top may make it a bit more of an interesting composition. Jen

Cor don't know what PeeWee05 is on about. The simplicity of this shot is its beauty. Just to get it looking perfect like that is super as poppies are not the easiest to get looking vibrant. Their shape isn't very photogenic I have found. I like the blurred background.

Excellent!!

Well, I'm with Elizabeth. I like it. I like the sharp impact of the red against the lovely blurred greys, which I actually thought was sky. And that's what made it for me, the brilliant red against the grey "skies" .. So just go change the wording up there to sky instead of wall, and everyone will love it! LOL!!
