I like the smoke.

The smoke is from a photo of an explosion that I took at an air show. At the time we thought it was a plane crash but it turned out they were simulating a ground attack and this was one huge pyrotechnic effect. I used Photoshop to cut it from the original image. I was left with sky visible through the smoke around the edges. Then I noticed something useful in Photoshop: the eraser tool is treated as if it was a paintbrush. You can set its opacity and flow rate and can therefore make the edges of things progressively more transparent by judicious use of the eraser. Suddenly I was able to make the edges of the smoke cloud merge naturally into the new sky because the new sky in visible through it without me having to mess with the opacity or blend mode of the whole layer

Very cool work - those 'things' look gigantic! The character in the corner is an interesting inclusion into this scene - even more mystifying as this person is looking at the viewer and not into the scene itself. Well done!
