Description

Dodged out into the garden between showers and captured this flower, I don't have clue to what it is. So any gardeners out there with the knowledge could you please tell, my wife would appreciate it as much as I would. Unfortunately slugs have had a good chew on it and the top section about 6 buds worth has been lost. Thanks to everybody for popping in for a view and especially for those that leave a comment. Have a nice day, and I hope the sun shines down on you, wherever you are.

It's kind of tough to ID a plant from one blossom, but from what I see, and your description of the "top section of about 6 buds" makes me think it's a gladiola. Does it have long, sword-shaped leaves, and a tall stalk with several blossoms in a row? They would open at the bottom first, and by the time the top ones open, the bottom ones are spent. If you google on "gladiola photo," you should be able to see several examples, and you'll know right away if I was wrong! :)

Looks like a gladiolus..............and how about a little salt for the slugs to snack on or a saucer of beer left on the soil? It's a lovely photo. The colour and detail are wonderful!

That is just gorgeous - such a lovely colour. I see you are having the same wet weather as we are in South Yorkshire!! Great shot!

No good with IDing flowers, but I can say the detail is brilliant full size! The only 'shame' for me is that you've chopped the top and bottom petals.

Lovely colors in this flower, as beatiful as it is, I'm not sure if I even care what type it is, I simply want to stare at it. Nice photo.
