Description

We saw this beautiful fellow while on an airboat ride on Mobile Bay. I've never seen anything like it before so naturally I asked the guide if I could hold it. This species is incapable of flight and can jump only short distances. It is mostly quite clumsy and slow in movement and travels by walking and crawling feebly. Commonly known as the Eastern Lubber Grasshopper their bright color pattern is a warning to predators that the lubber contains toxic substances. Small mammals such as opossums have been known to vomit violently after ingesting a lubber and remain ill for several hours. Thanks for viewing. Make it a great day!

I live here on the south coast and never saw one lol thanks for the warning as you see in books and tv on how to live on the land. I did not know of a toxic one lol. I do not eat grass hoppers.
