Description

Apollo with texture by me. Daz Python. Sword freebie, I'll edit this as soon as I find the name of the creator. Apollo boot pants and boots included with Apollo - FOR FREE = ) Daz Wings. Image is inspired by my hubby who has some funky bones in his shoulder blade area. I tell him that's from where the Gods pulled off his wings before they kicked him out of heaven. This has been sitting on my comp for some time now and I just got a desire to upload it today. I'm sure some more postwork could be done so counting on you guys to give me ideas. Oh the snake pose is from DMs rituals set.

The texture on the sea is a little too fine for my liking, you might also want to desaturate the colours a little more to give a greater depth of field. Rocks, snake and plant textures are very good though.

This is for improving the scene... I see the light source to the rightside and behind him, like the comming dawn or sunset. I would add a small light (*Spot with Depth Mat Shadows on)in a pale pink or rose color pointing at him from the same direction. This would give a more realistic shadow on the rocks and the rest of the scene. I think if there was a an IBL, say in a very light grey blue to give some over all light on the whole scene, would balance the blue a bit more. I like the look of the sea and sky. The rest is a wonderful POV! Best of luck with the final render.

Hmmm, I like the image, but I agree that the lighting is off a bit. I, on the other hand, can't give any advice as I don't have Vue. And if Vue's lighting is as hard to get the hang of as Bryce lighting is! And I agree with your Foum post, lighting IS a be-otch. Likely the hardest thing to master. :)

Visual balance is not very strong. You really ought to plant a tree, ruin, monument, or SOMETHING on the right hand side! A bunch of clouds, and islamd, a ship, a shipwreck--just something, ANYTHING to balance out the snake and dude with wings! Moving the snake's head down and forward would get it's shadow off the dude's face, too. I guess it's not too bad for a staged shot. The snake curled around his feet seems like he'll fall off the cliff during the attack, unless he leaps really high! LOLOLOLOL It just seems so blurry and out of focus to me. It looks alright, but it could look so much better!

Cool image. Agree with some of the other suggestions, though I wouldn't have come up with them myself. lol. But maybe moving the snakes head so there's not that shadow on his right eye would help things too? Great pose and cute anecdote. :)

Hmmm. Browsing the gallery here when I noticed this is in the 'critique' gallery. Never knew there was such a gallery, I must be blind. Anyway, since this is in the critique gallery, may I add a couple suggestions to what has already been said? I'll start by stating what I DO like... the snake and the guy are cool. If you want to get rid of the shadow on the guy's face, perhaps just move the light slightly, because I like the snake's pose, but that's no biggie. I think the water needs a different material. It looks a bit like 'television static' at the moment, rather than waves. Also I think maybe enhancing the bumps or imperfections on the surface of that rock might lend to it's believability somewhat. I like the plants, and the snake's skin texture.

I am not sure about the sea material - it just doesn't look reflective enough for me. I think the nice thing about Vue lights is that you can make them just illuminate part of the scene or just one thing in the scene and not overlight everything else :) An excellent pose on the python

Very cool image! I love the Apollo figure and the pose, especially the snake. I do think if you would turn the pov just a bit, rotate the scene so that apollo's head is framed between the wings, it might look better - there is too much "clutter" around that one wing - snake head, wing, Apollo head, all kind of mixed together - a rotate with a possible change of lighting if needed so that the snake's head is not shadowing Apollo's face. Also, the one lighter colored rock is a bit too much - draws the eye away from the main focus. Maybe change the texture of it so it blends in a bit more. Great image, love the concept, and with a little work it will be even better!

I agree with judee about maybe changing the PoV or even something even more simple like manipulating the wings a bit. To me it looks like the wing on the left hand side of the view, is growing out of the side of his head. I also think that Maxxx has a smart idea in manipulating the light rather than the pose. Not knowing anything about Vue, other than the fact I drool every time I see a render, I can't help much on manipulating anything lol. It really is a strong image, and I love your concept for the picture itself, It's such a cool idea. I can relate to this image and the idea behind it, so you are off to a great start with it. Scott

Interesting concept for the image. Although there may well be more realistic ways to represent the sea and the sky using VUE, I dont find it that important, they are not the main thing in this image. I find that his boots and pants look a bit 'plasticy', but that is not a central issue either. What is the major issue is the relation between the two characters. Or rather, the lack of relationship. At least ons should look at the other. The python's stare at the viewer is excellent, so perhaps the guy could look at him. Neither his pose nor his expressio give any clue as to what he is doing there or what he feels about the snake. It maybe that if you figure out what they both want to 'say' to the viewer ther rest will fall into place.

Well, I think most critique points have been covered on this one. The main thing that jumps out at me is that the skin of the human figure looks very flat next to the skin texture of the snake. Could use a little more contrast in the way of highlighting to bring out muscle tone and such.

I like the concept of this, and the picture works well, but to my eyes Apollo looks flat - he needs more definition, perhaps a hint of backlighting so that he stands out more. I would also suggest some more indication of the relationship between man and snake. I still like this image a lot!

The lighting need work, for sure. It's so flat with no defined contrast. The water is very unrealistic and the textures could be refined. To me, it's very staged with no action. Attention to composition is key here. The sky and the ocean could be 1. I'm sorry to sound so harsh but this is the critique forum so I don't feel so bad for offering my opinion.

Art is very subjective, so my suggestions are strickly my own point of view. The snake head, the male, head, the wings, the horizonal clouds are all on the same level. You might make the male figure smaller. Besides breaking up the space better, improving the composition and lighting on the face, , it would remove the shadow from the snake off the male figure. Your light is coming from the left, if you bring it a little more to the right, it would light the figure a little better. It could also be done in postwork. If you try to get some light on the snake coils in front, it would give more depth. The ocean texture is too busy, several people mentioned it and they're right. You might lower the horizon, it would make the snake and figure stand out more dramaticly against the sky. The rock is too light against a dark backgroud. The contrast attracks the eye, and when you look there's nothing but a rock there. I'd elimate the rock, or make it the same color as the ground, ( as mentioned above ). You might trim some off the right side of the image or add someting...maybe a moon? Your work is great, most the crits I see have to do with composition and some judgement calls on lighting or texture, and judgement calls are just personal viewpoints...including mine. Good luck! Enjoy!
