Description

The Wild Horse Monument off of I-90 near Vantage. It's the work of Northwest sculptor David Govedare, entitled "Grandfather cuts loose the ponies" it represents a Native American creation story. This is overlooking the Columbia River. ~~~~ the monument's legend reads: Creatures of the planet, behold a great basket! I send this basket, bearing the gift of life, to all corners of the universe. Now take these ponies, I am cutting loose. They will inspire a spirit of free will! They will be a companion for work & play on this planet... From the center of my basket burns the fire of our collective souls. Humans you are responsible! You have the power of reasoning and the gift of free will. Use them wisely. Always be aware the limitless nature of this ever-expanding universe. Let us live to inspire each other...

This is perfect, Akemi! I love the way you have the ponies heading toward the convergence of the hills sloping down and the river sloping up as the eye moves from right to left. A most excellent composition.

I really love this scene Akemi. I think your vantage point makes all the difference. The day you took it with the clouds sweeping in motion sure go well the motion of the sculptures. That is nicely composed. Hope you are taking care.D

Beautiful photo. I've been by these ponies many times in the past. So nice to see them again. Don't know why I never took any snapshots of them when I lived out there. Thanks.

In the thumbnail it looks like real horses and it felt like you were riding among them . . . Never the less, the artists vision and idea are fantastic and I am glad to see they have not been trashed by graffiti. Thank you for sharing. egmont
