Description

When I was a child, one of the recurring dreams I had was of falling down a well. It didn't feel the way I imagine falling down a real, physical well would feel in the waking universe (that would probably be a painful & brutal experience). In my dreams, I would be gently floating down an infinitely long tube that was about as wide as a house. All around me, as I descended, anything might appear. Dark caves filled with mysterious animals or grassy ledges where swordsmen engaged in duels, jesters juggled balls of light & contortionists twisted themselves into shapes that even pretzels would cringe at. In some places, the walls of the well are made of jagged black obsidian - in others, common bricks or clear glass or cotton balls or anything else my subconcious (or random firings of neurons or the cosmos or god or whoever or whatever else you may believe is responsible) wanted to throw at me. Freudian dream analysts probably would interpret this as obvious sexual symbolism, like the classic steam locomotive plunging through the tunnel... But I like to see it in more metaphysical terms. Each of us lives on a tiny dot of a planet, in a remote corner of the galaxy, leading our lives on one tiny piece of that planet, & as such are members of an infinitely large cosmic dance troupe. But we are also simultaneously individual consciousnesses whose primary instincts are to work towards our own survival & well-being. So my dream experience of the well & this image, which I think come from the same source (whatever that may be), both represent that. Of course, in Your dream universe, You're falling down the well & I'm one of the bit players performing for Your pleasure & curiousity... "I'll let you be in my dreams if I can be in yours" - Bob Dylan This is mostly Bryce primitives, but I did use a couple of free models by spacebones here - he's made a lot of them available & I've found them very useful. So thanks, spacebones...

Thanks for sharing this bit of you. Fascinating dream that you had as a child. Do you still have it? Lovely and appropriate image for the text. I know you don't do postwork, but a though I had would be to darken the upper/outer portion a bit to give the center more of a glow and depth. Just my 2ยข. I wonder what I shall dream of tonight.
