Description

Sometime around 8,000+ years ago, man discovered that mud bricks make a pretty fair building material in the dry parts of the world. It still works pretty well. This example is in southwestern Colorado.

I found them always to be interesting. in my travels to Mexico, many country homes I went to had dirt floors, but not a spec of trash.they always kept them clean as far as dirt can be clean.excellent pov

@rawdodb: The first trick is the brick itself. The best stuff is made out of clay mud mixed with straw and (yuck) animal dung. With adobe, wood is used for for support - kind of like re-bars. Hence the logs one sees protruding here and there on adobe houses. Then cover the brick with a sheet of mud like plaster. During the rainy season, the mud plaster protects the brick and slowly washes or peels off. In the dry season, the owner repeats the plastering process where it has washed away.
