Description

This photo doesn't really work as a thumbnail but for those who follow my viewfinder it might be interesting. Taken the same day as "The Piano" it shows you just how much driftwood gets washed up on beaches here. Turakina Beach on NZ's West Coast (North Island) is near a river mouth and typically after heavy rain in the ranges a lot of stuff gets moved downstream and out to sea. The tide then redeposits the stuff that floats (including dead animals) onto certain beaches like this one. Always handy if you like surf-casting and you happen to catch a fish, or you don't like paying for firewood. Here's my friend Chris contemplating how to extract some partially hidden treasure. His t(rusty) 4WD waits paitently.

Man, that's a lotta driftwood! The panoramic view really gives the full impact of the amount of wood washed up here. Excellent composition and detail. And perfect title to go along with Chris's body language.

A massive tangle of driftwood! The wide format is a very good choice for this image - excellent work!
