Description

Just felt like rendering. A friend suggested illustrating a novel I'm writing, so I took a stab at the scene I'm currently working, which features the heroine wondering in the gardens within the castle walls (hence the 'creative' title). P7 render placed over compiled BG. No postwork except duplicating the render layer and applying a small gaussian blur to the lower one ... and the text. I like it, but don't feel like it's complete. Any suggestions?

I think it's a lovely scene. I always wished I had castle gardens to wonder about in = D. The first off thing I notice is that she seems to be in the midst of a bit of wind. Yet the wind doesn't appear to be effecting anything else in the scene. Also the black edge to the plants is pretty visible still. I think all in all it works well for a novel illustration. Aside from the minor "flaws" everything in the scene is just gorgeous from the character to the plants.

Beautiful scene and render. That aside, I have to agree w/jjroland's comments, plus the shadowing needs to be added to the girl so she interacts w/the foliage. In addition, the foliage itself comes across as somewhat flat. Looking forward to the next update.

Good image, but I agree the wisteria and datura look a little flat. You could try adding some "bump" in the material room - as a first attempt I would try attaching the image map to the bump channel, then reducing it to a very low value. Sometimes this can produce some surprisingly good results.

Beautiful construction. But somethign is botehring me: the body of the girl has soem strong shadows and strong light zones, yet the scenery around looks like it is completely shadowed, as if the sun was just behind a wall. That contrast between the character and her surroundings is bothering me a bit. Teh body of the girls, as it is illuminated, should drop shadows on the tree behind and the grass. That would aslo help in improving the depth of the picture (something other poeple have complained about). Hop this helps you.

I agree about the shadowing. Play with that a bit in PS or PSP or which ever program you use for postwork. A little burn tool.. very gently added to cast the shadows where they are missing. Also, I think that the left side of the image needs something to balance out the right side, which is rather heavily overgrown with the wisteria. Either that or take some of the wisteria out from the bottom right. Also, to help with the shadowing and light, you can try adding a new layer on top of everything, of just the background and applying a texture. Set your layer to soft light, overlay, multiply etc. until you get a nice effect and then adjust the opacity of the layer until you like it. Play with different textures and colours to see what works best. It's going to be gorgeous with a little tweaking, because it's quite beautiful now.

Thank you all for your insightful comments. I'm still new to poser and to photoshop -- a program that doesn't seem to like me very much. I've tried your suggestions, but they don't seem to be working for me, so I need to become more comfortable with photoshop before I have another go at it. On top of that, the .pz3 seems to be corrupt because whenever I open it everything is zeroed and untextured. So, thanks again for the pointers. I'll be sure to implement them in my future works.
