Description
Just playing around with Poser - I can never get the lighting to look right.
All suggestions very gratefully received!

Très belle scène!!!!!!!

The first thing that catches my eye is the horizon. Generally speaking it should be lighter than the rest of the sky. The lighting is in my opinion too bright. Maybe bright is the wrong word but its almost luminous. Water and sky are two very diffcult things to do in an image. I think so anyway.

Nice idea and picture but for a proper critique and to offer some help about lighting we need to know which version of Poser you are useing. The later ones use vastly different lighting techniques. Also lighting is only one aspect of a render, shaders and textures play just as an important role. Are you after realism.

Sorry - I didn't think to give you that information. The picture is rendered in Poser 7, using infinite lights. I was trying for a relatively realistic look, hence a bright, sunlit scene. The figures are V3 with Charlotta hair and Pretty3d hi-fantasy pirate top, plus the mill cat. The water is a water plane from way back when (can't find the source - sorry) with the Poser 7 RDNA skydome. The textures are relatively straightforward - I'm not an expert on shaders and nodes in the material room.

There is some strange line that is well past cartoonish but not quite realistic. I think you hit that line. I know you say you were trying for relatively realistic, but I like what you achieved. The lighting is a bit bright, people will comment on that - but having been on a boat mid day before it is darn bright. For being so bright though the sky could use a more whitish color. Bump could be a bit better on the rails. I really like her expression, you made me laugh. Thank you.

The lighting is to even. Give some contrast to light vs. dark. On top of that, there are a dozen or more areas that need work. Gravity on the clothes ... the hair being effected by the elements ... the scale of the cat to the woman ... the choppy geometry ... the horizon being unreal ... the low res textures ... the unrealistic shadows ... I'm sorry if this sounds harsh.
