Description

The Rangitikei River takes the catchment from the Kaimanawa Range visible in the distance and the torrents of water have engineered a serpentine track through the soft rock. Here is the new girder bridge that replaced the wooden one that collapsed as a truck driver took a load of animals across in the 1950's. With such a fearful drop there was no chance of survival for man nor beast. (See my previous photo). The suspension towers are completely obscured by the trees, but they are exactly opposite the small viewing platform perched on the edge of the chasm. (Just to the RHS of the orange building). The bridge at Mokai Canyon has become a destination for those who for various reasons want to throw themselves off a very high bridge in a picturesque setting. An observation platform and cafe with obligatory carpark and fully paraplegic accessible has been provided for the comfort of those who prefer to watch the affects of gravity on humans rather than to experience the affects internally. There are two options: Option One is a little complicated in that an elastic cord is first attached to the feet of the person undergoing the gravity test. Option Two is for the control group.

Quite a wonderful photo. Give me a part of the control group please, and I will observe from the platform with all the excitement I need contained in a cup of hot caffenated bev.

I don't believe I'm up for either option. Can I be one of the scientific observers, instead? This is a beautiful view. The colors are rich and your composition is perfect. Excellent capture!
