Ever try Particle Illusion? The effects it can generate are astounding. The Soceress' ball of fire would be a good candidate for that application. Good render qualities and great ambient lighting.

Slick character, and that outfit is killer ! :) I think it'd be even nicer if her hair was flaring a bit more overall, and if the fireball added some colored lighting as well, this'd be even more amazing!
