Description
This is one of those birds that I hear often but only get rare glimpses of so I was surprised to spy this one and have my camera at the same time... I took what I could get :)

Good shot of a shy bird! They are usually solitary, imagine my amazement when one spring I had what seemed like a FLOCK of 6 in my woods. lol Maybe it was a family reunion of sorts like my bluebirds do... Thanks for sharing a really good capture of one of my favorite birds. =)

Manning, glad you got one! A pileated has visited here in the mornings fairly close but in shadow..and generally with no cam out. These birds do have the distinctive "wood woodpecker" call..nice shot.
