My perspective may be narrow but non-unique as I absorb Harry Sopwith and John Wayne in this. Cunningham was the name of the first USMC aviator and now it is associated with Rolls-Royces, yachts and Persian carpets. I have flown this design in the Microsoft Flight Simulator and was comforted that I had the presence of mind to fly it in "bug-smasher" mode with what seemed like nose down attitude. No pitch up for me.

The problem with the Camel was it was nose heavy and had a tendency to go into a spin and killed a lot of rookies. However, experienced pilots could use this to their advangage and do a "rotary snap roll". The Sopwith Snipe was a stabilized version and proved itself exellent in combat.

I'm glad that she is till is in flying condition and take her out for a spin from time to time. US Army Air Service also flew the Camel during the Great War.
