Description

Under the Fractal Moon. The Moon illusion is a visual illusion (or optical illusion) in which the Moon appears larger near the horizon than it does while higher up in the sky. It is a commonly held belief that the Moon appears larger near the horizon as a result of some kind of magnification effect caused by the Earth's atmosphere. This is not true, although the atmosphere does change the color of the Moon. Actually, the measured optical angle of the Moon's vertical diameter is smaller for the horizon moon than for the zenith moon, so the just rising moon 'correctly' photographs and "looks" a bit squashed down (ovoid). Maybe it's the shape of the sky. Humans perceive the sky as a flattened dome, with the zenith nearby and the horizon far away. It makes sense: Birds flying overhead are closer than birds on the horizon. When the moon is near the horizon, your brain, trained by watching birds, miscalculates the moon's true distance and size. (Wikipedia) Take care, enjoy the falling stars these days

At the time of my first night of guard in Algeria, in years 1959/60; I knew this impression ' terrible' that the moon was 1 time and half larger than in France in Paris, and in more it seemed close to the horizon. The environment of helping danger, I believed that it was approaching the Earth!!!
