Description

Nikon 7900 image. This was taken about 6 weeks ago just after noon on a very bright beautiful June day. ( Much nicer than the 104 degree F we had to day, lol! )I noticed this Butty as it work over the Honeysuckle Blossoms that were growing along a fence row and wood line. I attempted a number of shots, but each time he/she moved a few feet just before I could get focused. After about 15 minutes, I was about to give it up as a lost cause when suddenly the shot was there and amazingly, I got it, lol. I was a bit worried about the strong contrast between the brightly lit Butty and the deep shadows of the wood line but with just a little postwork, I think it turned out pretty good. Proof that even almost lost causes can have a positive outcome if you stick it out long enough, lol. I can not identify this Butterfly any closer than that it almost surely is one of the Sulfer Butterflies. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee

An excellent shot - the strong lighting has brought out the wing detail beautifully :)

Look at the bend in that "straw!" Great macro, Lee! I have given up more than a hundred times while trying to shoot a butterfly. I'm easily distracted and loose patience rather quickly. After all, flowers don't move around too much unless the wind is blowing. :-) Your postwork is excellent and although I can make out the wood, it is not distracting at all.

The lighting is perfect to bring out all of the details in this little buttys wing - a must see at full size!! Great composition and amazing clarity. Lovely capture. xx

Fantastic macro, the lighting is spot on and your postwork is fine. As for the butterfly it looks as though its legs are part of the flower. Is that very thin web like strand the actual nectar being extracted? Such fine detail, you truly are an amazing artist. Bravo!!!!!

I personally think the constrast between the illuminating butterly and dark woods work. It's a great photo.
