Description

I'm finally home to clean my flower bed and get sidetracked by a giant spider! I really don't like spiders but since I just bought a new lens (Nikon 18-200mm AF-S with VR) I decided to "shoot" the scary thing. lol It is a common garden spider (Argiope Aurantia) says the internet and this is probably the female. This is the top and underside of the same spider. Anyone else want to add info feel free! Back to work and will be back soon. Jodie

A lesson for little grasshopper, eh? Nice capture, albeit, a bit terrifying to think about. Guess there are some things worse than beginner's band.

Just beautiful shots. They are amazing creatures, even thouh most people have phobias about them. Best part is, they eat flies which only have two purposes in life, to eat dung and bother people. Really a nice catch.

Nice shots and it is indeed a female. The males are much, much, much smaller. Thanks for sharing. Lee

Ewww .. I had a spider exactly like this once living by our pump .. that was back when I wasn't 'heavy' into photography; hindsite tells me goll dang it, I wish I had taken a picture of it !!! Instead I just named her Charlotte and admired her every day ... till she was no longer there. Great shot of your Charlotte Jodie. Pretty girl she is.

I do not like spiders too. I was six years old and walked into one of these type of webs. I tried to break free but could not. I looked and saw the spider as big as me comeing at me. lol I got free and ran as fast as I can. The spider was as big as this one big in fear at six year old I saw it was as big as me. cool shot

A handsome arachnid, I must say! Beautiful thorax textures and a nice couple of captures of the creature busily doing whatever spiders do. Congratulations on the new lens. They come in real handy in these situations. BTW, is that a coiled telephone wire hanging from its web?

Great close up of a beautiful lady! You even showed the strong silken thread zig-zagging, I think it's called "stabilimenta" and scientist still speculate as to its real purpose. Excellent photos and presentation. Oh yes, and I should add they are rather docile creatures despite their hasty movements when retreating.
