Description

I took the top 2(same) at Turtle Creek Wednesday and the other 2(different) Thursday at Samuel farm park hope you are not too creeped out by these critters.thanks for viewing and any comments I dedicate this to Leeco a very fine critter photographer Yellow Garden Spider image of Yellow Garden SpiderArgiope auranita Typical Orb Weavers, Family Araneidae This distinctive spider is often noticed because of its large size and its habit of building webs in gardens and grassy areas near houses. It is most typically found in tall grasslands. The small cephalothorax is tipped with silver hairs, and the slightly oval abdomen is patterned yellow (sometimes orange) and black. A black mid-stripe with four white spots in the center marks the top of the abdomen. The legs are black with yellow-orange stripes. The upper portion of the legs is more solidly colored orange-yellow. Females are much larger than males and can reach lengths of 19-28mm as compared to 5-8mm for males. This spider can be found sitting head-down at its web's hub where a zig-zag silk band, the stabilimentum, extends vertically from the center. A variety of insects may fall prey to this spider, especially grasshoppers and katydids. Certain species of smaller spiders use yellow garden spider webs as their own and may feed on the tiny insects caught in the web. http://www.mdc.mo.gov/nathis/arthopo/mospider/kinds.htm#anchor867492

Judging from some of these comments I'd say you have the "creep" factor turned up pretty high for this collection. At least they're still able to see the beauty of your photos, as do I. Bravo!

Wonderful captures, each and every one. I like spiders outside, not inside, so this one is okay. ;o) These shots are awesome. Bunny

I followed my brother and the bully that lived sup the hill. We went through all the fields as he captured 85 of these horrible spiders. Then he filled the jar that was now their home with water. He walked up to my mom whom was holding babies in each arm. He held the jar of 85 spiders hidden behind him. He stated he had a gift for her; she thought how wonderful maybe it was a munch of followers. Instead he pulled out the large mayo jar and shook the spiders in water in front of her face. I being only five knew we did wrong and I watch my mommas face turn gray as the spiders swilled and floated to the top. i thought she was going to die., But it was us who died in out tears after she spanked the hell out of us....lol I don't blame her. today when I see a spider I run like hell. I can't look at this image closely cause I'll run and scream...lol. I am guessing it's a damn good shot coming from you!
