Description
This is the most postworked photo I have ever done. I think I started working on it about 02:00am this morning and finished just now at 10:45am. I have been looking at this photo for so long that I have lost all objectivity, I don't know if it is a strong image of a brooding castle under a magnificent sky, or an overworked peice of schmoltz with a bad colour cast and a noisy background.
This was my first sight of the castle, the Photo was taken from the town of Seahouses across the bay from Bamburgh. The digital camera a FUJIFILM FinePix S5600, was rested on a stone wall for stability and the shot was taken at maximum focal length of 63mm (about 380mm equiv), with an ISO of 200, a shutter speed of 1/1000 second, and an apature of 3.25. There was a lot of haze over the sea, which lead to a very flat contrast in the image. I boosted the contrast a lot in PaintShop Pro 7, which lead to a rather noisy looking image, especially in the sky. The sea, land, and sky were seperated into 3 seperate layers for processing, and it required a lot of fiddley work with the erasor and clone brushes to join the land and sky back together without a visible seam.
If you like castles you may care to look at my other castle photo "Bamberg Castle - 001"
