Description

The hummingbirds have found our yard finally to be sure. This specimen appears to rule the roost, running any interlopers away from his favorite feeder, then roosting atop the Japanese Maple directly above. I imagine I will spend some time continuing to attempt to get good pics of them, but it sure ain't easy.. and I have a bunch of relatively dark, slightly fuzzy shots to prove it EDIT: This just in: those who know have corrected me and emphatically stated that this is a juvenile male Ruby-Throated Hummingbird. I'm unsure whether the same authority is also telling me that what I thought was a black-chinned is actually a ruby-throat as well.

Our ruler sits in a oak tree waiting to chase off the others. This is the first year I've put out feeders for the hummers and was surprized that they fight so much. I love yor picture. It must have been difficult to capture a pic of your fisty friend. Thanks for posting it.

I spent 3 hours today trying to get a decent photo of our hummers. They just don't hold still long enough to adjust for light, shorten the depth and focus... I think you did very well here!
