Ah, back to what I do best – close ups with minimal DOF and loads of color. Here is one from last month. Common Chicory with what I believe is a hover fly. When I photographed this I thought they were just really tiny bees (about ¾ inches.) But I have since seen photos of hover flies and they look like this little guy, please do correct me if I am wrong. My 14-54 lens is not a macro lens but it sure does come close to being one and is definitely my most used lens. Got in really close so that the DOF would be as minimal as possible and noise reduction further softened the background just a touch more (most of the minimal DOF is courtesy of the lens) The chicory flowers were mostly dead when I revisited this location last week, I wonder what will spring up there next…..
