Description
For the Mayan Indians of central Guatemala, known as Kekchl, Tzuultaq'ah was the god of the mountains and valleys.
I've been researching various angels and deities in ancient mythologies as inspiration for the "Fallen" series. The interest having stemmed from various religious and mythological references to the War of the Angels and the Fallen, who were cast out of Heaven along with Lucifer.
What intrigued me was the vagueness describing whatever became of them as they were not all exiled to Hell as is generally believed. Some say they became demons, while at the same time there are other references, stating that they were exiled here to our existance, and may redeem or forever curse themselves according to their acts. Thus the belief in gaurdian angels and angels of darkness.
Many people believe they continue to live among us and others believe them to be the many gods and goddesses various myths and legends refer to in ancient and present history. Not all of them light nor dark, good nor evil. Anyway the entire concept intrigues me enough to continue this series indefinitely.
August 2007 - 2D, photo composite, PS CS2, various filters and effects. 14 hours to complete.

There's a lot of debate on the entire angel issue. No telling what the sons of god were, and currently are, up to. This is very cool. :)

I've got the miniseries on tape now myself:) When I think about it, it is a weird ending. That the warriors of god are also banned from heaven. Also fallen. It's what Stalin did after WW2. He couldn't have a trained, armed pissed off army in country- so he bannished them to Siberia or executed them. So- lol- God and Stalin(sp) behaved the same? Like I said, weird.

Amazing image you've created! The layering is very complementary and works great. I am wondering what of the image is your own artwork? Hand-rendered and photographed? Good graphic quality and execution~ Thanks for sharing a bit of your research as well... I've long thought the "world" is not as simple as most assume...

Photography and hand rendering. Photographs of the Moon; NASA archives, Mayan temple taken by a friend in Tikal I believe but I may be mistaken. Wings I believe are from Antje here on Renderosity, trees in foreground, girl's face in the sky, all my own photography. Mountains and human figure hand rendered fractal sky layer created in Apophysis 2.0. Composite pieced together in Photoshop CS2, filters used: Xenofex, Nik, Alien Skin, Extensis, pretty much. I have so many I don't always pay attention.

Call it whatever you like, warriors of good or demons... (But I think angels itself are older than known religions.) Seems that mostly people forget - that angels do have the right to CHOOSE their way as every single man or being has the right to. At least all they do is based on their free will. And as all "romantic" believers in angels I think they also have the right to be too human or too emotional... while they often tumble and fall. To be honest I feel much more attracted to these "dark and fallen" angels because they are so near to our own existence, not perfect but longing to be, not as strong as the famous archangels - but more feeling and, well, also caring. They KNOW how easy it is to loose struggling against the self. But these are only some thoughts of mine due to the late hour here ;-) However - I like this work a lot, and looking at it makes quite visible you try to catch emotions what's never easy. Colors and execution are great, I like it!
