Description

While trying to shoot some foliage in Carolina Beach State Park, I glimpsed something moving out of the corner of my eye. When I turned, I realized I was crouching next to a three-foot-wide spider web and that Miss Spider was not real thrilled about it... Since she was already ticked off, I figured it wouldn't do any more harm to stick my camera in her face and fire off a few shots. And voila -- my first bug pic. Mr. Google informs me that she is a Golden Silk Spider (Nephila clavipes). Most people call her a Banana Spider and she is about 3 inches long. Enjoy, all you spider lovers.

I'm not a spider lover and not terrified of them...but this is a cool shot..love the web and the green in the background....thanks for sticking the camera in her face.

LOL @ Hairyface..... I'm with him though (if I had a lens that big!!) I'd would have ran for my life when I'd realised I was sat next to "that" thing!! Now I've held a tarantula, but these everyday spiders (as I call them!) scare the life out of me far more yuck! But, this is a great capture with wonderful details (OMG, I can't believe I've just said that!!) Excellent. xx

Ohhh I'm quite familiar with these characters, unfortunately shiver ....spiders are definitely on my adrenalin list...great capture though, Gary, and luckily you stopped just in time !
