Description

Our minds are programmed from an early age to recognise and interpret different facial expressions. Our interpretive instrument (a complex chain of parallel processors in our brains) is extremely finely tuned and translates its findings by pumping neuro-chemical transmitters into the emotional centres of our mind. This has the dual benefit of 1) making us feel emotions and thus prepare our bodies for an appropriate response, and 2) highlight the experience with an emotional memory marker that lodges the experience into our long term memory for future retrieval. That's what happens in the split seconds after our eyes scan an image that has been crafted to appeal to these deeper parts of our minds. Artists have understood this intuitively and it is only now that science has been able to unravel the invisible steps that take place when we observe something beautiful (or for that matter - strange or ugly). This rapidly unfolding science is called neuro-aesthetics and there is a LOT of material that can be easily found if one has a mind to do so. Here is the image of a girl who's had the dubious triple benefit of great genes, training in the arts of grotesquerie and deliberate framing and enhancement of the expression with a digital manipulation programme. If you feel anything at all, the feeling is EXACTLY what you are supposed to feel. Artists are MAN-ipulators.

I love it! Especially the eyes, my eyes where like that last year, I am a diabetic and due to this I loss blood flow to a couple of eye muscles resulting in my right eye looking straight ahead unable to move it to the right at all and only a little to the left. I had to wear a patch for four months due to double vision at the onset I they could not put a prism on my glasses because I was so seriously affected after the four months were up I had a prism fitted to plain glasses so that I could drive. I am now cured of double vision and my diabetes is under control. It was no laughing matter I can assure you, not being able to drive was real bad. This photograph as really cheered me up, thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend.

Thank you all for your viewing comments. It wouldn't be the same without them. JeffG7brj - I had no idea diabetes could do such a thing to your eyes.
