Macros do not always fulfill a vision for it may lack something. Technically you’re dead on but I fear it is like not having crossed ones 'T's' or dotted ones 'I's'. It does not mean an insect is required in the scene, but maybe it has to do with the positioning of the camera. Landscapes are passive and our eye moves on, verticals are demanding our attention. Maybe having turned the camera to the vertical position would have made the difference and given us a little more depth, though it would have been out of focus, which would have been fine.
