Description

Still not ready to stop learning on this. I am getting to the point that I think I know what needs to be done. It's just a matter of execution, and I'm not there yet. It probably would be better if my camera was capable of higher ISOs (the Rebel XTi only goes up to 1600), and of course a faster lens, supplementary lighting & a tripod would be good. This is the first opportunity I've been granted by the adult male ruby to photograph him without obstruction. He's quite adept at remaining completely opposite me, and only peeking around for the most brief & fleeting of moments to make sure I'm not theatening, but yesterday, for one series, he gave me full access. Of course the ultimate best angle, pose & iridescent colouring was out of focus, but I like this pose too. I'll keep trying.

good on you for continuing to try! As you say, it's a shame that the focus on him isn't better, but the pose is great, and you will get there!
