Description

Just another example of one of my comic-strips for you to peruse - and hopefully to comment on. I have explained in previous postings that this story was begun 20 years ago whilst I was at High School. It was inspired by my friendship with my two best mates, sprinkled liberally with a thick coating of my love of medieval culture, language and art. As this is the twentieth anniversary of the strip’s creation, I have set myself the (daunting) task of restoring the strip digitally. The pages have deteriorated with excessive handing and the original text was sloppy in the first couple of dozen of pages. My style obviously altered a lot in the time as well, so I have endeavoured to restore it in a way that will unify the overall look of the art, whilst at the same time trying to remain as close to the original 'feel' as possible. If you want to understand the background of the story or what is going on in the featured strip, leave a comment and I will reply.

Not sure how much Photoshop you know, but some ideas on aiding the restoration process. Restoration step 1: Mask the voice ballons and thicken the cantrast setting to darken the lettering. (If not replacing them entirely with a PS font) Restoration step 2: Try a posterized filter on the color to see if that doesn't smooth out the rough texture. Maybe even a little hint of a dithering filter. Restoration step 3: Add an outer boarder and drop shadow to the whole page. Slight shadow, that is. It'll set the image up as a comic strip page and help keep it looking as an original piece of art. I too have many old pieces of Art I created long ago. I salvaged a lot of them by digitally scanning them and subsequently adding PS applied filters and a bit of image tweaking. Good project to focus on.
