Description
This was taken at the Alaska State Fair in Palmer AK, 2007. This was kind of hard to do, because of the glass caseing, but this was the best shot. :o)
The following is straight from the tag attached to the front of the glass...

This is a mouse that came into the beehive in the springtime. Likely it was looking for food, either pollen or honey. Perhaps it was looking for a warmer place to set up it’s home. Mice are common visitors to hives in the spring when the bee population is low, but usually they confine their activities to the lower portion of the hive avoiding the bees. This one climbed onto the top portion of the hive and disturbed the bees too much. The bees killed it and removed as much of the body as they could. As with all hive debris, the items that are too large to move are covered with wax and propolis to keep the hive interior clean and healthy.
How many stings does it take to kill a mouse? Researchers in the southwest United States who are studying the Africanized Bees (killer bees) say that it takes 7 stings per pound to produce a toxic load for a healthy animal such as a dog or a person. For an average adult this is about a thousand stings, for a mouse it would be only a few. It was likely that this mouse could not get away from the bees because it crawled between the frames.
